Do my "independent contractors"
operating in my salon have to be on
my policy? Our
program can accommodate most independent contractors at exceptionally low rates.
However, if you choose to not include the independent contractor in your
coverage we need to have proof that they have coverage somewhere else or we will
need to add this coverage to your policy. It is also important that independent
contractors carry coverage comparable to the coverage you have for your salon.
This coverage issue is important for you and your independent contractors and
for the integrity of our program. return to top
What if I have different types of
businesses in the same location
(beauty salon with tanning, video
store with tanning, gift shop with
tanning)? Our
program can accommodate many types of businesses under our tanning program. We
can accommodate video stores, beauty and nail services, day spa services, most
gift shop types of operations. However, there are many that do not fit the
tanning program but we have other programs to meet your needs. Please call for
more information if you have questions regarding this type of coverage. return to top
What if my salon is in my home? Under
the right conditions and circumstances we may be able to cover your business in
your home. Please call us if this is your situation. return to top
What is professional liability?
Professional liability is the reason it is difficult to obtain tanning salon
insurance. It is also important coverage for all service industries such as
beauty, day spa and fitness. Professional liability is much like ‘malpractice’ coverage for a
doctor. This is coverage for the services you provide. For example: as a
business owner providing skin tanning services, you are an “expert” in the
business of tanning. Professional liability is coverage for things like burns,
bed malfunctions, skin cancer, STD’s, etc. Anything related to the service of
tanning would fall under this coverage. return to top
How much liability protection do I
need? First
of all, your liability protection is comprised of many different types of
coverage. Under a program like ours, you have commercial general liability that
includes Premises liability, Products liability and Personal/Advertising
Liability. This is
the coverage that most landlords will require you to carry. However, the big
questions, is how much “professional liability” coverage do you need? Keep in
mind, landlords are not concerned with your professional liability, so you have
a choice. We offer limits of $300,000, $500,000, $1,000,000 and $2,000,000 per
occurrence for Professional liability. Your premium costs can vary significantly
between these limits. If you have questions the best thing to do is call and
speak to an agent. return to top
What exactly is "content value"?
Content value is what you own and/or have invested into your salon. This is the
coverage for your business personal property against things like theft, wind,
lightening, vandalism, fire, etc. Your content value needs to include the
replacement cost (purchasing items brand new) of your tanning equipment,
build-outs, electrical upgrades, A/C upgrades, front desk, retail products,
furnishings, etc. This should be understood as what it would cost to rebuild the
interior of your salon and replace all the property contents if you had a total
loss. return to top
What is an additional insured or
loss payee? An
additional insured is another entity that has a liability interest in your
business. A landlord or tanning bed leasing company would be an example. Most
landlords require to be named as additional insured to your policy. A loss payee
is another entity that has a financial interest in your business. For example, a
bank or lease company would have a financial interest in your business and
require to be named as loss payees in your policy. return to top
